Surgical Adviser

Tim is a plastic surgeon based in Oxford, with a special interest in cleft lip & palate surgery.

He and Kate have spent time in East Africa where Tim worked as a very general surgeon at Mvumi Hospital in Central Tanzania. Tim has made regular visits to Uganda over 20 years, working in collaboration with  the specialist plastics team at CoRSU Hospital, outside Kampala, to develop reconstructive surgical capacity in the region. He has also has many visits to other countries around the world where reconstructive surgery is less developed, and has spent much time  in the UK attempting to argue the case for appropriate surgical development as well as teaching and enthusing students and postgraduates in the role for reconstructive techniques in basic surgical service provision. He has Chaired the Overseas Service Committee of BAPRAS as well as the Overseas Committee of CMF, and is a Trustee of ASTI (Acid Survivors Foundation) as well as Chair  of Interface Uganda. Tim was Vice-President of the Royal College of Surgeons. 

As surgical advisor, Tim provides inputs on best surgical practices for surgical teams in Congo. He helps highlight medical needs of projects and helps identify potential surgical & medical visitors to projects and partnerships. He advises on the equipment and on operating theatre buildings. Tim and Kate visited the Nursing Institute and health centre in Aru and Tim visited St Matthieu Hospital in Bukavu.
