Through our approach of standing by our partners for the long term, Semiliki helps them grow their projects. From the outset Semilki has been supporting St Matthieu hospital in Bukavu with strategic investments. Prior to Semiliki, friends helped build the initial consultation block. We have helped with equipment, medicines and supplies and helped to build and equip the operating block. Key to our cooperation has been investing in key individuals and supporting the training of hospital leaders.

Hospital director Dr Denise is managing to run the hospital, do her surgical specialisation and look after her large family. Semiliki supports her surgical training at Panzi Hospital, where she is mastering many important techniques like orthopaedics and laparoscopic surgery that she hopes to bring to St Matthieu.

Also in Bukavu we are supporting student Abigail with her medical training.

Semiliki with a generous grant from ECHO and your support has been financing the construction of the new maternity at St Matthieu. Construction was completed 4 months ago and we are now helping to equip it. Many more women are coming to deliver at St Matthieu.

Following the tragic death of dental nurse Elie in June 2025, we despaired that his vision for establishing quality dental care would vanish. St Matthieu had just purchased a wonderful dental chair to help Elie treat many more people. Fortunately we can report that the team have since recruited a dentist and a dental nurse, who is currently having further update training with dentist Ringo in Butembo. Numbers of dental consultations are shooting up. But there is no dental unit where the team can work. They currently use a room in the operating block which is not suitable for the dental work and it reduces operating capacity. Semiliki has just sent some funds to start constructing a new dental block.

Support Semiliki to build the dental block at St Matthieu’s Hospital, send equipment and supplies and support Dr Denise’s surgical training, and Abigail’s medical studies.
