Film: Seeds of Hope

, , , ,

Seeds of Hope is an award-winning documentary by Fiona Lloyd-Davies that tells the story of Masika Katsuva, a survivor of rape, who has helped hundreds of women and children in eastern DRC.

Hephzi Nicol, a good friend of Semiliki Trust invites you to a charity film screening event that she is organising on Monday 9th March at the beautiful Ham Yard Theatre, London. Hepzhi spent part of her childhood in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and has been supporting a number of projects in the north and eastern regions over the last few years. One of the areas she is particularly passionate about is supporting women and children who have suffered from the violence and instability caused by the civil wars and regional conflicts.

The film is a story of inspirational resilience and female solidarity, yet it also confronts the brutal reality of sexual and gender based violence, with perpetrators, including soldiers, talking openly about why they rape and the rituals of guerrilla warfare. It was shown at the Global Summit to end Sexual Violence in June 2014 and this will be the first UK screening in 2015.

The trailer includes scenes that might be upsetting to some viewers, so please proceed with caution.

Doors open from 7pm and the screening will begin at 7.30pm. Seats will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis and there will be a paying bar and popcorn on the night.

All funds raised from the night will go towards assisting victims of sexual violence in eastern DRC.

Funds will be given to Masika’s Centre in Minova and Semiliki Trust, a local DRC-based charity, that has been supporting rape victims for over 10 years in a rehabilitation centre in Goma. The women that come to the centre are not only physically and emotionally supported through a traumatic period in their lives, but they are also equipped with new skills in handicraft and tailoring to provide them with a means to support themselves when they leave the centre.

Hepzhi hopes you will be able to join her and please feel free to invite any friends/colleagues that would be interested in the event.
